d'skills
Apr 01, 2024
CHIEF REBEL (aka FOUNDER) of d"Skills Our speaker is Hannah Grady Williams. Hannah grew up in North Carolina and was the oldest of seven homeschooled children. She started college online through College+ when she was 14, meaning she graduated from high school and college with a degree in international business at the same time. Hannah notes that she primarily taught herself by roughly grades seven and eight, although she did have outside instructors for some subject areas. She shared with me that most of her “education” came from one subject: speech and debate, where, simply by preparing for frequent competitions, she learned research, public speaking, communication, teamwork, efficiency, history, public policy, and even science. Hannah’s journey towards founding a company called d’Skills began in a blue pickup truck when her father handed her, at age 12, the phone so that she could close a deal on a piece of real estate. Now, as a 25-year-old Native Digital, Hannah is Chief Rebel at and founder of d’Skills, a VC-backed start-up shifting students from test prep to life prep. It’s a hub, perhaps, where motivated teens learn new digital skills and convert them into real-world projects, helping them leave high school with more experience and connections than most college graduates!

Apr 06, 2024 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM
The new Principal of Kalihi El, John Hamilton wants to do a small campus beautification project at Kalihi Elementary school. This involves clearing shrubbery from the chain link fence facing the freeway. Pruning shears and small handsaws will be provided to clear the fence. We are looking for 20-25 volunteers to help with this project. We are including Hickam Pearl Harbor members, Kamehameha school students, and military volunteers. I believe that it will be a very fulfilling project for the school and the community. The project is on Saturday, April 6th, from 9:00-noon at the school. Small hand tools will be provided, but volunteers should bring a hat, sunscreen, garden gloves and covered shoes. Water and a light lunch will be provided after completion.

What I Learned About Servant Leadership From Annie Ray
Apr 08, 2024
Intro by Robert Landau Description: Josh Reppun stands on the shoulders of giants: several key teachers he had at Punahou School, teacher, and EdTech mentors during his 17 years in the classroom, Ted Dintersmith, founder of What School Could Be, and, of course, his activist Reppun ohana from the Koʻolaupoko District on the Windward Side of Oahu. His remarks will focus on how he has moved from being a shy, introverted, behind-the-scenes kid to providing a platform for others to tell their stories of education innovation, creativity, and service. He will also share what he learned about servant leadership from Annie Ray. Josh Reppun was born and raised within the Reppun ohana on the Windward Side of Oahu. A former chef, hotel manager, and history teacher, Josh is the founder of Plexus Education, LLC, dba as Most Likely to Succeed in Hawai’i, a “movement” founded by extraordinary people dedicated to developing global public, private, and charter school conversations around Ted Dintersmith’s film, Most Likely to Succeed and his book, What School Could Be. Josh is also the founder of Josh Reppun Productions. He is an evangelist for What School Could Be, the host of the What School Could Be Podcast and the producer of two films: Ka Helena Aʻo: The Learning Walk and The Innovation Playlist, about creative, imaginative and innovative educators and education leaders. Josh’s podcast, edited by the talented KS graduate, Evan Kurohara has now reached nearly 100,000 downloads in over 100 countries.

Hawaii Fi-Do
Apr 29, 2024
Hawaii Fi-Do trains their own bred, exceptionally qualified service dogs, primarily for mobility, for people in Hawaii with disabilities. They also prepare and make ‘healing dogs’ available for compassionate and therapeutic programs with veterans, children, seniors, and the hospitalized. Their goal is to provide greater independence and enhanced quality of life for isolated and vulnerable people including those with disabilities. They tailor each service dog’s training to suit their client’s needs regardless of ability to pay. |
