THIS SESSION CANCELLED
This is a new facility - opening up mid January. We are cleaning, assembling furniture, and staging the units in preparation for inspection by City & County and the general public. Our anticipation is a long term support for this facility as they prepare young adults for entry and success entering society. It might help to bring tools appropriate for assembling furniture. Type of work to be performed: Friday is general cleaning or building of furniture, Saturday would be continuing building furniture and stage 10-20 units. Tools or supplies we should bring with us: We would provide all supplies for 10-12 people. Extra supplies such as screwdrivers, rubber mallets, cleaning supplies, towels will be helpful. Read to Me International
Feb 10, 2025 7:15 AM
Read To Me International has a simple yet profound mission and a few goals which guide it. It believes that as stakeholders and communities come together to address the literacy needs of children, they will realize the importance of reading aloud to children as a simple but effective way of raising children who value and love reading.
Executive Director Dannah Barnes, MBA Dannah Barnes graduated from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa’s Shidler College of Business in 2018. Before joining the organization, she served as Regional Area Marketing Partner in a for-profit company and as Director of Development at two health non-profit organizations. At Read To Me International Foundation, Dannah has led the organization as Executive Director for over two years and her greatest joy is creating joyful story-time moments with keiki. She also enjoys sharing read-alouds tips that help parents and caregivers overcome the barriers to reading aloud each day. As a child, Dannah was read to by her parents and would often visit the library with her aunty. Her aunty would also create fun activities that paired with the books she read. Dannah appreciates how special story time was as a child and is excited to pay it forward every day. |

Saturday, April 5, 2025 8:00am - 11:00am McKinley High School Campus
The 2024 Speech Festival comprised over 350 students from 34+ of our district’s elementary schools. We plan to have more students participating this year and as such, we will be needing a large number of judges yet again.
The success of the Speech Festival for thirty-three years is possible because of the many volunteers from the district and school levels and from our community organizations and businesses.
Please use this 2025 Speech Festival Judges (Google Form) if you are interested in volunteering to be a judge for the 2025 Honolulu District Speech Festival. Please forward this information to others in your organization who would also be interested in volunteering as a judge. All judges will receive more detailed instructions and information as the date of the event nears.

We are looking to create a partnership with Ka'iulani Elementary School - they are very excited to have our support and involvement! We’ve been invited to participate in an elementary school Career Day, where we’ll visit 3–4 classrooms and speak briefly (just a few minutes!) about what we do. These are K–5 students, so you don’t need to give a full resume or explain complex industry stuff. The goal is to spark curiosity and show kids that careers come in many shapes—and that it’s okay to dream big (or change their minds later!). EVERYONE has an interesting story, even YOU!
